Ella has long been seen as a champion for healthy eating, her Deliciously Ella cookbook inspiring many to follow her recipes and approach to food. Now in her latest work she goes further, suggesting that how we eat is responsible for many health problems such as mental illness, obesity and heart disease.
She goes further by advocating that “clean eating” can help people feel better and gain clarity, yet ignores scientific studies on this subject. A diet low in refined sugar and rich in whole foods is the only surefire way to ensure you’re receiving enough nutrition, but this approach may not be practical or sustainable for most people.
Beat, a charity dedicated to supporting those with eating disorders, reported to us: ‘We receive many calls from young people citing healthy eating advice they’ve read as the cause for an anxious thought about food.’
Concerns have grown about eating disorders among teens as their numbers continue to increase; according to recent estimates, up to half of 17-19 year-olds may have one or more eating disorders.
Back in Hollyoaks, Ella has been struggling since Mandy took her away from Warren. Later, she started dating Charlie but was devastated when he defaced the memorial tree she planted for their deceased baby – eventually breaking up after Ella caught him kissing newcomer Shing Lin Leong!
