Gloriamichele Magazine for Midlife Women is on a mission to celebrate the wisdom, beauty, and vitality of women who are gracefully aging in today’s youth-obsessed culture. Through sharing inspiring stories that encourage our readers to embrace their age while staying active and healthy throughout their 50s+, Gloriamichele strives to show all sides of being an older woman today!
When she’s not conducting groundfish and shrimp surveys in New England waters for NOAA Fisheries Service or other research organizations, Gloria Michelle docks at Northeast Fisheries Science Center’s Woods Hole Laboratory as her home port. Here she runs under command of two NOAA Corps officers at any one time.
R/V Gloria Michelle and its crew have had an active spring, with many major repairs and upgrades taking place on board. Most notable of these were replacing a marine sanitation device, repairing fuel tank welds and installing a new engine engine.
A BBC film crew recently visited Gloria Michelle to create a seven minute segment about its work, scheduled to air later in 2017. Ensign Carl Rhodes of Maine Maritime Academy graduated with both a bachelor’s and associate’s degrees in marine science as he has recently taken over from Lt Anna-Liza Villard-Howe and Ensign Shannon Hefferan who have moved onto other NOAA assignments onshore as the Junior Officer in Charge on board Gloria Michelle since January.
