Home and adult videos showing women shooting off streams of fluid that purport to be female ejaculation abound on the web, with many women seeking advice on how to experience genuine orgasms. Women’s sexuality pioneer Betty Dodson provides insightful and no-nonsense guidance in this episode of Women’s Sexuality Radio.
Dodson, now 90 and dying of cancer, has long been an advocate for women’s sexuality since the 1970s. She wrote three influential feminist classics such as Liberating Masturbation, Sex for One and Orgasms for Two; ran workshops called BodySex focused on masturbation for self-love and pleasure; recently revived hour-long Sunday sessions after COVID hit; these mini sessions act like shorter versions of her two-day master classes.
Carlin Ross, who directed this episode (after Betty died in October), filmed an hour-long session from Betty’s Madison Avenue apartment. A high-definition image montage displayed various vulvas of different shapes, colors, and sizes before Dodson instructed Ross on her method, which includes using oil-based lubricant, weighted dildo for vaginal penetration, Magic Wand vibrators to stimulate clitoral stimulation as well as deep breathing technique and rocking movements known as her “Betty Dodson Method”, leading up to Ross’ on-camera orgasm!
Female orgasm is comprised of secretions from glands surrounding the vaginal opening, including Skene’s gland, as well as urine (yes, we too have that!). Research suggests it contains very low levels of urea and creatinine but high traces of PSAs (prostate-specific antigens), an enzyme known to trigger ejaculation both among cis men and women.
