Pornicate
The term “pornography” can have an extremely divisive impact. One definition limits its scope to sexually arousing content of pictures and videos, while others consider both how sexually provocative content is presented and utilized – sparking debate over whether such materials fall within laws of obscenity.
Pornography is an inherently difficult issue due to the wide array of definitions, opinions and values surrounding it over the years. Most agree there are things which should not be classified as pornographic; many also agree there are specific forms that should be restricted; the main disagreement centers on what defines a “pornographic image or video”, with this definition evolving over time.
Many individuals attempt to avoid pornography by focusing on its content rather than presentation; however, this can be challenging due to its accessibility – making it even easier for individuals to become hooked into a pattern of viewing that may not be desired.
Some individuals define pornography by restricting it to images or videos with high levels of sexual explicitness, but this approach poses several difficulties. First, it is unduly restrictive as it excludes gay pornography and children’s pornography from consideration; and secondly it can be value-laden as what constitutes morally offensive material can vary depending on social, aesthetic, political and legal contexts.
