Moanamo is an inspiring story of identity, purpose and connection between humans, nature and ocean life. It encourages children to remain true to themselves and follow their own paths even if it seems foolish at times. Additionally, this tale serves as a reminder to appreciate and value our natural environment and ancient ancestors while taking responsibility for protecting both.
Moana, daughter of her Polynesian island’s Chief, is called upon by the ocean itself to restore equilibrium between humanity and nature by uniting an ancient artifact with Te Fiti and restore balance with Maui (Dwayne Johnson). Moana must seek him out to help her in order to complete this task successfully.
Moana’s Grandmother Tala becomes gravely ill and instructs Moana to sail off in search of Maui in order to save their village from impending doom. Tala also shows her granddaughter a secret cavern filled with ships before Maui’s arrogance halted ocean exploration altogether, leaving Te Ka’s darkness corrupting it instead.
Moana defies her father’s wishes and sets sail to find Maui in order to protect her village from an impending typhoon, encountering both Tui the coconut god and Pua the demigod pig god on her journey. At Te Ka, Moana experiences both terror and transformation when learning that Te Ka is actually Te Fiti corrupted without its heart – when Moana returns it she heals both ocean and islands of disease while fulfilling many of Moana’s deepest desires like finding her place within community, working closely with mother nature, and becoming an adventurer voyager!
