Kitty_Cak was diagnosed with debilitating mental illness, and found baking to provide her with purpose and an immense sense of achievement. She immersed herself in it wholeheartedly – even her father Al gave up his teaching job so they could act as her pit crew! Over time her skills improved, as did her recipe-testing expertise; from miracle overnight white bread to her signature Marmite glaze blondies she produced them all with great success!
She became fascinated with sourdough, creating a live starter called Ferguson for her kitchen bench that made her feel needed and responsible, “making my mind easier to manage”.
Even without formal qualifications or training, she was determined enough to secure full-time employment with a bakery company until her cat, Ferguson, arrived. A tribunal found that his presence did not violate her employment contract and reinstated her employment position.
