IMTA (Integrated Multitrophic Aquaculture) is an aquaculture technique for raising pearl oysters Pinctada imbricata radiata in closed systems with nutrient-rich salt water. First developed in China [9], since then IMTA has been applied across North and South America, Africa and Europe with trials conducted mainly at fish farms with specific water physicochemical characteristics and trophic conditions [10]. Although the efficacy of this method has been demonstrated, further progress in terms of developing it has only made limited strides since then; ultimately it would benefit all cultures that allow P. imbricata radiata cultivating in various environmental conditions [11.
