Nowadays, cameras are ubiquitous – from laptops and smartphones to tablets and Internet of Things devices like smart TVs and home security cameras. Unfortunately, these devices also pose a privacy threat: cybercriminals use these cameras to spy on you, steal your data or blackmail you; one common way for them to gain entry is through malware called Trojans that infiltrate computers and compromise cameras.
Trojans are typically distributed via spam emails that appear to come from legitimate sources like banks, government agencies or charities. Once downloaded onto a victim’s device, these Trojans can install malicious applications that take control of their webcam – known as camfecting.
Hacked footage can be exploited for many illegal activities, including sexual exploitation, blackmail and identity theft. Hackers could also monitor your activities, study your daily routine and predict when you are likely away from home in order to plan a burglary attack on your home.
Cyber Cam has an extremely distinct personality; he tends to act more “hip”, wear skull caps, speak in urban vernacular (he often refers to Tori as “Babelicious”), excel at adventure sports such as skateboarding, surfing and motorbiking and was also the only Ranger clone that started off being good rather than initially becoming evil.
