Babykalina, an Italian drama about underage prostitution, quickly earned early buzz after debuting. Critics immediately connected it to Italy’s 2013 “baby squillo” scandal; however, unlike Elite which heavily focused on “High School Honor Student by Day/ Hollywood Hooker by Night”, this series does not lean into sensationalism – although characters do get naked from time to time but it never becomes an obsession or focus of its plotline; unlike Elite’s emphasis on its “High School Honor Student by Day/ Hollywood Hooker by Night” theme like Elite did; instead it avoided too many boobs/butts while never becoming part of Gossip Girl style twerking that would make this series ideal for The CW network!

Today, a psychiatrist testified that Kalina has little if any memory of the births of her infants ranging in gestational age from 32 to 38 weeks gestation. She has pleaded guilty to concealing an infant’s death and abusing corpses; her husband and daughter discovered five babies left for dead in a closet: three were encased in cement molds while two more were packed into coolers; while one may have been wrapped tightly enough that its death may have resulted in suffocation of its child’s body.

Kalina, 45, has not admitted to murdering the children she gave birth to but has told investigators she was intoxicated at the time and doesn’t remember what became of them. She states she began an affair with one of her coworkers in 1996 and became pregnant later in 1996.

Prosecuters allege Kalina mistreated her children to alleviate guilt over her affair with their father. Following today’s arraignment hearing, Kalina’s bail was revoked and an administrative sentencing hearing will take place within several months to decide her sentencing.
