Carmela Soprano is easily the most famous character on the show and her personality has become one of the defining characteristics of the Sopranos family. As wife and mother to Tony Soprano, Carmela remains loving and supportive despite his wealth originating from illegal sources; while well aware that his money comes from illegal means; nevertheless she remains loyal as her love remains stronger than anything else. While condemning his extramarital affairs she understands they come from illegal sources yet she stands by him and their family regardless.
Carmela may have had issues with Meadow and A.J, but overall she is a caring and loving mother to both of them. Although they occasionally argue, her relationship is typical of that between mother/child in America. Carmela is also close with Paulie whom she helped raise after his father passed away, spending much time together. Additionally she shares an amazing bond with Paulie as both have endured many difficulties throughout their lives together.
